PHASE lV  ( will it never end ?)
Well, the last modification is so easy that I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier.  Why have an over-flow hole and also a fill hole?  I decided to combine the two and make only a slightly larger hole while making sure that the lowest part of the fill/over-flow hole is positioned correctly.  Also, I have decided to stop using the box knife and use a hole saw to make the hole in the boxes.   If you use the box knife, please be carefull.. I have noticed that when first starting to cut, it takes a lot of pressure, and then suddenly, when it gets going, it is easy to make a much longer cut than intended.  Let me know if you have found a good way to easily make a hole roughly 2 inchs round or square.  For now, I am going to use the 1 3/4 inch hole saw.    chuck
OK, I decided to make some smaller 2 gallon size growers just to see how they work.  As you can see, the hole saw works fine.  The picture was shot at a downward angle, so you can see the bottom of the liner.  When it was filled with potting mix ( pre-wetted), there was about 2 inches of the liner below the water line.  That means it will probably need to be filled more often than the bigger 10 gallon size boxes.
