Hi, for complete construction details, click the HOME button above.  I recommend that you go right to the Phase ll instructions.
Phase ll   There were 3 different phases of the design.  The first phase was built simular to the traditional Earth Box except that I added an internal liner to simplify construction.  The second phase eliminated screws and staples were used to fasten the liner to the rim of the growbox.  In the third phase, the fill tube was eliminated and relplaced with a simple fill hole.  To start, I recommend that you take a look at the phase ll dirctions, then note the difference of the phase lll model to see how the fill tube is eliminated and replaced by a simple fill hole located above the over-flow hole. Then, if you care to, go back and look at the phase l instructions.  Maybe if you are contemplating using a larger tote box, you may want to double the liner and use the screws which are probably stronger.  I plan to replace the liner after each cycle, but it may last much longer, only time will tell.  chuck
Now, even more simple
It occured to me today while making another grower, I was out of 1/2 inch PVC pipe to make the fill tube.  Then I got an idea.  Why do I need a fill tube anyway?  With an internal liner, there is no worry about roots or potting material leaking out of a hole cut into the side of the grower.  Just as long as it is above the the overflow hole.  So of course, I had to try it out.
That's it, no more fill tube to mess with.  I will probably modify all my other growers to eliminate the fill tube.  chuck
